Description of procedure
The patient was brought to the operating room and epidural was initiated. The patient was then prepped and draped in the usual sterile fashion in the supine position. The time out safety protocol was called out by the surgeon and affirmed by all personnel present. Two Alice clamps were then placed just under the umbilicus. A small transverse incision was then made. Blunt and sharp dissection was then performed to enter the peritoneal cavity. One fallopian tube was then isolated using Babcock clamps and army-navy retractors. The fimbriated end was identified. The mid-isthmic portion was then doublely ligated and cut using 0-plain suture. Good hemostasis was confirmed. The fallopian tube segment was examined, confirmed and then sent to pathology. The same was performed on the opposing side without difficulty. The fascia was then reapproximated using 2-O Vicryl in a running stitch from one end to the other. Hemostasis was insured in the subcutaneous tissue using the Bovie electrocautery. The skin was then reapproximated using a running subcuticular stitch with 4-0 Vicryl. The patient was then brought out of anesthesia, and transferred to the recovery room in excellent condition.
